Writing An Effective Introductory Paragraph
for An argumentative Essay
Basically, the
introductory paragraph has two part, namely :
a. The General Statements : which give the
reader background information about the topic of the essay. These statements
get the reader interested in the topic.
b. A Thesis Statements :
Which introduces the main idea of the essay. This statement is similar to the
topic sentence in a paragraph, but it is broder and gives the controlling idea
for the whole essay. The topic sentence(s) of the body paragraph should relate
to thesis statement. The thesis statement is usually the last sentence of the
paragraph.
Example a thesis statement :
Atheles are always admired by many people. We admire their achievement,
their determination, than struggle to win in a competition. In someway the show
us what fighting is all about lots of people think athletes are born, but I think
if people train hard, persevere in what they believe, and determine to do the
best, they can became successful atheletes.
